Holiday in slow (e) motion

next
back

A holiday is a time when one has the chance to say cheerio to the daily grind and the pressure to perform and a time to satisfy cravings and take the foot off the gas. Replace higher, faster, further and when on the hunt for the next adrenaline rush ‚rediscover‘ the pleasures of ‚slowness‘.

The Valley of Games Saalbach Hinterglemm offers endless opportunities for personal ‚slow down‘ and lasting recovery throughout the Summer season.  The basecamp therefore is accommodation – from luxurious wellness hotels, cosy apartments to family orientated B & B’s, one already feels like being at home from the word go.  The JokerCard which is included in overnight stays with numerous JokerCard partner s, provides numerous attractions and offers in Saalbach Hinterglemm free of charge.

Whether one finds relaxation whilst  lazing around in the sunshine on a deckchair,  taking a wander alongside the river ‚Saalach‘ or indulging in the local delicacies, taking part in one of the many activities offered – there is something for everyone:  There are no „musts“!

The most beautiful  part of the ‚hoilday feeling‘ is that it is still there when one returns home.  This positive aftermath is supported  by experiences with personal additional benefits. As everyone has  a different definition of personal moments of bliss, a variety of lasting impressions arise in Saalbach Hinterglemm.

Creativity „Back to the Roots“ at Carpenter’s Woodpark (Schnitza’s Holzpark)
A weekly workshop with  the carpenter ‚Herbert‘ at his woodpark at the end of the valley (Talschluss) offers all age groups the chance to show their creative side.  You can look for the „ingredients“ yourself on a relaxing stroll alongside the river ‚Saalach‘ , such as steons, driftwood,  cones and other treasures to contribute to an artistic picture, lampshade or sculpture.
A particular weekly highlight at the wookpark  is a visit from the nature expert „Survival Mike“ Sattler.  Through a demonstration he will illustrate the most important codes of practice for the majority of dangers in the mountains.  Both big and small situations can be highlighted in an authentic surroundings of the woodpark on how one can deal with these situations with natural aids: fire, ropes or bowls.

Eye to Eye with the Squirrals
Next to the Schnitza’s woodpark, you can find the ‚Treetop Path‘ (Baumzipfelweg) – a path between the treetops.  You start from the Lindlingalm over the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps, a 200 metre hanging bridge up to 40 metres high.  After crossing the bridge the 650 m long „Treetop path“ – a rugged loop road made from solid larch wood which takes you between the treetops over stairsways, towers and bridges over several storeys up to 30 m above ground level.  It is not just about breathing here, but also taking in the fragrance of the treetops, opening the eyes and listening to the wind in the treetops.

See how the day awakes
For early risers who are feeling sporty, some hotels offer a ‚sunrise‘ walk.  Stillness and darkness envelope the walker on the ascent to the peak.  To observe daybreak from the highest point opens up new perspectives and when the first sunbeams tickle the nose, one has the feeling of vitality and freedom.  A hearty breakfast should be the reward for the morning’s exertion and to refuel the battery for the rest of the day.

Almyoga at Sundown
The Hintermaisalm in Hinterglemm offers a special programme for relaxation and find inner peace.  On the luscious meadow in front of the rustic hut Sabine Gensbichler invites you to to join her in the clear mountain air for yoga session as the sun goes down.

Time out & Painting
Take a deep breath and forget the noise and stress of everyday life and and let yourself take a thrilling journey „into a world of water and colour“.  The Art hotel Kristiana hosts a ‚Aquarellness‘ walking  tour with expert Johann Breitfuß.  The scenery and wonderful backdrop are accompanied by the music of birds singing in the skies.

Traditional Bread Baking
At the Panoramaalm and at the local folk museum (Heimathaus) in Saalbach, one can learn traditional bread baking and taste the difference from the products at the supermarket.  Experiment with various ingredients and herbs and baking in a stone oven as the anticipation builds up to taking the first bite.

Majestic Wildlife
Alexander Röck accompanies guests who are interested to feed the wild animals nearby the Panoramaalm, where one can observe the deer at close quarters.  Every Monday one can also see falcons, buzzards, owls and golden eagle at the bird of prey display where the Falconers give an interesting insight to the world of birds of prey and one can watch these majestic birds in flight.

An enjoyable dinner with regional products of the highest quality, a relaxing massage or treatment in a wellness hotel or magical evening on the mountain meadows or walking underneath the starry skies.  A perfect end to a day in slow (e) motion.
